Annalies Brijker and Lisan Lesscher shared their research on "Impactful Media Interventions to Encourage Healthy and Sustainable Food Behavior." The discussions were incredibly helpful in further developing their studies. All in all, we had a wonderful and insightful time together. We are pleased to highlight the accomplishments of our researcher Joris Galama. With a commitment to studying and teaching behaviour change mechanisms across diverse contexts, Joris contributes to education and understanding in this field. His recent publication, "Unravelling consumer acceptance of local food: Physical versus social distance and the important role of social identification," co-authored with Emily Bouwman 🌱 and Marleen Onwezen, delves into the exploration of psychological distance concerning local food products. Published in Appetite, this paper represents a valuable contribution to the discourse on consumer behaviour and food choices. Congratulations to Joris and his collaborators on this achievement!https://lnkd.in/esTtFE89

We are delighted to announce that our esteemed colleague, Joris Galama, has been awarded the NWO (Dutch Research Council) Doctoral Grant for Teachers for his PhD project titled 'Resisting unsustainable temptations: Are countercampaigns effective in canceling out the effects of advertising?’. In his research, he will, among other things, explore the following questions: What impact do unsustainable advertisem*nts have on us? Are people receptive to counter campaigns, such as awareness campaigns? And do these measures prove to be effective? The scholarship will enable him to dedicate two days per week to his research over the next five years. He will be under the supervision of Jan Willem Bolderdijk from the University of Amsterdam and Bianca Harms from NHL Stenden.Congratulations Joris!!https://lnkd.in/en2_JnCw

🌱Last week, we attended the final meeting with the consortium partners of the SNN project "From Veggielab to Veggie Farm." This meeting once again highlighted the value of multidisciplinary projects! Within this initiative, we delved into understanding the eating habits of citizens in the Northern Netherlands and how communication can drive healthier, more sustainable food choices. 🥗 The research report "Foodwise" is now available (in Dutch)! Here's a sneak peek at some key findings:💰Factors like affordability, safety, and health significantly impact food purchases.🥦 Only 8% of Northern Netherlands residents meet the daily veggie intake, and just 18% regularly buy organic food.🚺 Women buy organic food more than men.📚 Knowledge is power! Understanding the positive impacts of organic and sustainable eating influences purchasing decisions.🌍 Price, environment, animal welfare, and health drive the choice to buy organic products.🛒 Sharing insights into why organic products cost more could boost their consumption.🍏45% of respondents crave more veggies and fruit in sports facilities, workplaces, schools, and healthcare centers, even influencing their healthcare facility choice! These findings offer valuable insights and solutions for driving healthy, sustainable nutrition initiatives, including guidance for policymakers. 💡Keen to dive deeper into the report? 🌱𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀𝗚𝗿𝗼𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹!🌍Last weekend, the festival Let's Gro took place! On Friday, an engaging panel discussion was held during the meeting 'Working together on healthy and sustainable food' organized by the Gemeente Groningen at the city hall. Various stakeholders collaborated to promote a shift towards healthier, more sustainable, and locally sourced food. Under the direction of Alderman Kirsten de Wrede, Onno Van Eijk and Bart Bremmer, along with Hilde Lavell and Hiltje van der Wal, conducted research on accelerating the transition to sustainable, healthy and localfood. The findings werediscussedwith the participation of Bianca Harms, Henk Hulshoff, Frans Kerver, Marijke Nieborg, and Anita Pepping in a panel discussion on the subject. In addition, on behalf of the Trans-Plant North project, Rob, John, and Bianca organized the Plantastisch session on Saturday in the Forum. Bianca explained why a plant-based consumption pattern ismoresustainable, healthy, ethical, and social and why we find it so difficult todecrease out dairy and meat consumption.Rob talked aboutwhy plant-based food creates more equality on a global level. With 8 billion people and 1.6 billion hectares of arable land on Earth, an average of 2,000 square meters of land per person is available for food production. The challenge arises from food waste and the utilization of animal-based food, which demands additional land. More efficient use of available resources can easily provide everyone with enough delicious and healthy food.John engaged the audience in a conversation about the barriers and positive aspects of plant-based eating. To prove that plant-based food is also just very tasty, falafels with sauces were handed out with help from Luca.Gemeente Groningen, Trans-Plant Noord, Hilde Lavell, Hiltje Van der Wal, Kirsten de Wrede, Onno Van Eijk, Bart Bremmer, Bianca Harms, Henk Hulshoff,Frans Kerver, Marijke Nieborg, Anita Pepping, Rob van Haren, John Hoeks en Luca Zeinstra.#letsgro #sustainability #plantbased #food
